Meningitis B
Meningitis B is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can cause inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord.
If you or your child develop symptoms that could suggest meningitis, seek urgent medical advice straight away from TDPG Clinical Team by submitting a System Connect or by phone.
If symptoms are severe, please contact 111 or attend Accident and Emergency.
Early treatment can make a significant difference.
It can develop quickly and become life-threatening, so it’s important to be aware of the symptoms, which may include
- fever,
- severe headache,
- neck stiffness,
- sensitivity to light,
- vomiting,
- rash that doesn’t fade when pressed.
Babies and young children may show different signs, such as a high-pitched cry, poor feeding, or unusual drowsiness.
Since 2015, vaccination has been offered to infants is part of the routine UK immunisation schedule for infants.
